Getting Ready For the Big Night
Finding the right gown is a lot harder than it sounds and those who believe that all it takes is a mad dash into the store and the proffering of some plastic or paper currency are sadly mistaken. Do not ruin your prom by attending unprepared, without the right accessories. Evening gowns come in many different varities.
Practical tips for getting ready are plentiful:
- First and foremost, with the event still months away, peruse the fashion magazines to get a good feel for where the fashion industry is heading this season. Which materials are in, which cuts are out, and which detail work is highly coveted?
- Next, take a good look at the budget. Sure, $400 seems like a lot, but when you consider that you also need to buy shoes, accessories, pay for hairstyling and other incidents, it suddenly is not so much at all! Now is the time to find chores to do, an afternoon job, or anything else that might net you some more cash to afford that truly stylish Sherri Hill or Jessica McClintock gown you are pining for.
- Try on some sample gowns. These do not have to be the final choices; instead, the goal is to see how the cut of the garments will look on you. Face it, you may intend to lose an extra 15 pounds between now and the prom, but before you know it, the big day will be here and it is wiser to buy for who you are today (figure wise) rather than for your hope, wish, and pray to be on that date!
- Those with a few extra pounds need to remember that shimmering satin may look great on the mannequin, but when worn in real life, it will show off every last bodily flaw your physique has to offer. Similarly, have a clerk help you with your color choices; red is a showstopper, but some folks just don't look right in red!
